COLUMBUS, Ohio—Around $15,000 in goods was stolen on Friday evening from a home near Livingston Avenue.
When 42 year old Steven Fisher discovered a butcher knife lying in his backyard Friday after returning from work, he had no idea his home was just broken into. Fisher says 2 plasma screens, laptops, digital cameras, and electronic gaming systems were all stolen from his home.
After filing a police report, Fisher was told by an officer that burglars are targeting homes during the day, and that 10-12 homes in the neighborhood have been broken into during the month of September.
“If I had the money, I’d move out of the state of Ohio, I like where I work, and I like Columbus, but I just don’t want to feel like a prisoner in my own home”, said, Fisher.
The news of Fisher’s burglary has spread to neighbors in the area. Just a couple of doors down, a house was broken into in 2005, but the resident tells NBC 4, the addition of an alarm system has kept things positive.
Detectives with the Columbus Division of Police Burglary Squad say when there’s an increase in property crimes, they step up patrols in the area.
