UPDATE: Columbus fire officials rule a house fire as accidental and give the cause of the fire.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Columbus fire officials said it likely was neighbors’ fast actions that saved three people from an early morning house fire.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Columbus fire responded to a house fire around 12:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of Cleveland Avenue.
Officials said the blaze began in the back of the home and was caused by a potpourri heater.
An elderly woman, her daughter and a man were in the two-story double at the time the blaze broke out.
Neighbor Sean Rogers Jr. said he came outside and saw a man trying to save the two women. That was when he jumped in to help.
“I smelled it at first. Then when I came outside, I seen everybody coming towards the apartment. So that’s when I decided I’ll help him out because there was only one person who was doing all the work,” Rogers said.
“I came outside, and I see an apartment on fire, and I see a lady on the ground,“ Rogers. said “I picked her up and put her to the sidewalk. I see another lady trying to bust a window out, and she needed some help. I grabbed a pole, and I busted the window out again.“
“I heard there was another person inside the building, and my heart just dropped. I just thank God that everybody is all right,“ he said.
Everyone was out of the house by the time fire crews arrived on the scene.
The fire was ruled accidental, and damage was estimated at $160,000.
A 77-year-old woman was transported to OSU Medical Center for minor scrapes and bruises. No one else was injured.

Bravo! May we all have the courage needed to act when needed!
You never know from one day to the next what “opportunities” you may be presented with to help your fellow man, whether they be a stranger, neighbor, friend or relative. A hero doesn’t think about the danger they may be putting themselves into, their only concern at the time are those who need help. They think about the consequences after the fact. Although I don’t know the victims or the rescuers, I’d be proud to call you friend. We need more people on this earth like you. God Bless you.
