Ohio EPA Trying To Decide How To Distribute $279M
NBC 4
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is narrowing down its list of proposed water projects.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Federal Recovery Act money will be used for water infrastructure projects statewide, which means cleaner water for Ohioans—whether it’s drinking water or waste water—and some possible green projects.
The public comment period is over. So now, the state EPA is reviewing its so-called wish-list of projects.
The list includes an aviation deicer recycling and treatment project for the Columbus Regional Port Authority, which would enable participating airports to recycle water used to deice planes and use that water on site.
“You’re going to see people being provided with cleaner drinking water projects, which will replace old antiquated drinking water systems and you’re also going to see improvements in our overall water quality in streams and rivers,“ said Ohio EPA Director Chris Korleski.
The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio would like to use the funds for SWACO’s Landfill Leachate Treatment Project.
The city of Dublin would use the money to replace old sanitary sewer lining.
The village of Harrisburg would use its funds to connect to the Franklin County Water Supply and for a new collection system.
Ed Ervin has been using a well in Harrisburg for 37 years.
“So it will bring the value of our property up out here and also everyone that’s on these wells out here, most everybody is on water softener, so we would have to have the water softener after this,“ Ervin said.
Ervin said there would be less chance for contamination, but the cost to each household could be a burden.
“A lot of these people are on limited incomes and they can’t afford it,“ Ervin said.
The good news is that all of the projects will bring jobs to Ohio.
All of the projects are proposed; the money has not been distributed yet, and some projects on the list may not be approved.

all i got was a crappy chair that’s falling apart and it leans to one side! IM NOT KIDDING IT REALLY DOES!
if its the Mayors office that has it I wouldn’t be surprised He cant walk down the street with out his entourage of but kissers following him like he’s the Pied piper
BigT,
You know they can’t do something like that! We’re talking the government here, they aren’t allowed to do something SMART! That would be sacrilege! The government, now matter what kind, is only allowed to do STUPID things, you know, like cutting police/fire instead of PET PROJECTS, rather than raise taxes!
Why can’t they take that extra money and invest in something that is going to make some money so we don’t have to raise taxes?
I would have figured the new meditation room with the big leather recliners they put in at Columbus would have eaten that up.Not to mention the foot massagers for under the employees desks.
WOW, $279M - lets sit back and watch how they’ll WASTE it!
