Teacher Qualifications Available From School Districts
Teacher Tracker
Find out your child's teachers' qualifications; it's something every parent should know.COLUMBUS, Ohio—The No Child Left Behind Act gives parents the right to inquire about their child’s classroom teacher’s qualifications.
What information are parents privy to?
Parents have the right to know what degrees a teacher holds, the college major and whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived.
Parents can find out if teachers are qualified to teach certain subjects or grades.
Information is also available about teachers’ aides and their qualifications.
The Canal Winchester Local School District, for example, says parents can call the Assistant Superintendent, Barb Harrison, at 614.837.4533.
The Ohio Department of Education says parents can request certain teachers at the beginning of the school year, but during the school year is more problematic due to student teacher ratios and continuity.
South-Western City Schools parent Tanya Thivener is on the PTA Board in her area and says she didn’t know the information was available. She would also like to see personal bios on teachers, written by the teachers, along with employment histories that list past schools and how those schools were rated at the time the teachers taught there. Thivener’s son went to Harrisburg Elementary School last year. That school will not be open this coming school year due to budget cuts, but Thivener is glad to know her son’s teachers will move to his new school in the Fall.

Yes,just like being able to look up doctors and their performance.
Good idea. Why not have it available in a drop down menu in alpha order for all teachers on the District webpage?
I would love to put a parent review on a few teachers.
DUH!!! C’mon people if your going to comment at least stay on point. I read the article 4 times looking for anything relating to drug testing on teachers. What the heck people? It talking about qualifications. If you want drug testing of teachers then contact your superintendent with a petition signed by your community. STAY ON TRACK…
I guess it’s a matter of fairness(drug testing). If a person has to drug test to flip burgers at Wendy’s,then the person encharged with teaching my child, who’s safety is in their hands, should have to as well.
Actually, teachers only spend a fraction of the day with their students. In a 24 hour day, school has my child for 7 hours per day. I think that leaves me, the parent with the other 17 hours, which means I have a far greater influence on my children. Are parents willing to take drug tests as well? We also have to drive our children around town daily.
Is this an invasion of the parents privacy, as well as the teachers? At least the teachers don’t drive the students around town.
Dailyyes
I too think this is a great idea, I am a bus driver and we have to have a minimum of 4 drug tests a year. Which is fine by me, it did increase once First Student messed everything up for bus drivers. too would love to see bio’s on teachers as well, where they came from what made them decide to teach. Information like that is great it helps the parents and students get to really know their teachers instead of only talking and meeting during parent teacher conferences. I am fortunate though, My husband and I are very involved in our son’s schooling. During the parent teacher conferences I am always told “ you will be bored”. I know the teachers on first names basis as well as their children as well. But the bio’s would be awesome as well.
This is great! Teachers, administrators and principals are the only people that DO NOT HAVE TO DRUG TEST! Even though our children are with them the majority of the day.Every other support worker-food service, maintenance, janitors and bus drivers all must test, but not teachers?! What is this all about?
