COLUMBUS, Ohio—Athletes from Indiana, Michigan and around Ohio were scheduled to start arriving to compete in Ohio Wheelchair Games 2009.

The games will be held at several Columbus locations Friday and Saturday.

“They’ve been practicing (participants) all year long for this competition to challenge themselves and peers and hopefully make some national records and move on,“ said Teresa Fournier, OWG co-director.

Athletes will compete in all sorts of sporting events from archery to table tennis and swimming to weight-lifting.

OWG’s track-and-field competition was in question for a short time due to a scheduling conflict.

The athletes were to compete at Upper Arlington High School stadium.

A recent tournament playoff birth for the school’s girls lacrosse team had OWG looking for a new stadium with an available track.

OWG and NBC 4 put out the call for an available stadium Thursday and got an overwhelming community response.

OWG had its track within 25 minutes of the noon news show.

The track-and-field competition was set to be held on the track at Groveport Madison High School.
