U.S. 40 Reopens After Car Crashes Into Combine

U.S. 40 in Madison County in front of the Madison County Airport has reopened after an accident involving a car and a combine tractor.

The accident occurred around 7:10 p.m. Tuesday night. A car driving west on U.S. 40 crashed into a combine also travelling west. Then the car crossed the median and hit a fence. Witnesses tell deputies that the driver of the heavily damaged car ran into a cornfield after the accident, fleeing the scene.

The driver of the combine was uninjured.

U.S. 40 was closed for around an hour as crews cleaned corn debris from the roadway.
