COLUMBUS, Ohio—Central Ohio postal workers are up in arms about proposed cuts that the federal government plans to impose in the near future.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
The American Postal Workers Union claims the United States Postal Service will contract out 54 local truck driver jobs and close three Central Ohio post offices to help reduce costs.
“These are permanent dangers for a temporary problem. They’re doing it in the name of reducing costs. They will not return,“ Michael Schmid, president of the APWU Columbus chapter, said.
These three Central Ohio post offices could close: Busch Finance Station at 6161 Busch Blvd., Linden Finance Station at 1981 Cleveland Avenue and the Old Town Station at 1035 McAllister Avenue.
The group of about 50 postal workers picketed outside Josh Colin’s home Sunday.
Colin is the district manager for the postal service in Columbus.
NBC 4 attempted to contact Colin but was unsuccessful.

and for the record Im against the Govt Run health care program I know wrong topic wrong board
the sad part is he implied that the Govt could run the healthcare program well because they run UPS and FED-Ex well
Yep, appears he did say it. But it’s hard to argue with him - the PO is facing an $8 billion dollar loss this year, and next. That might be considered a “problem” to most people, huh? Bad comparison though to UPS and FedEx. They are free to raise their rates whenever they want - their “fuel surcharge” to business shippers on account changes every few days, Plus, their absolute minimum charge for an envelope is about $4.00. Can they deliver a normal 1 oz letter for $.44, even if they were allowed to? Of course not. No other country’s post office can either, our rates are the lowest in the world. Again, not defending everything they do, just trying to be fair.
It was early this morning when I posted the original comment so I didnt get it exactly right but it is what he said, search it.
this happend just a few days ago during a health care townhall that he had
he did really say that

Postal Service Managers Angry at Obama for Denigrating Postal Service While Defending Government-Run Health Plan
“I mean, if you think about, if you think about it, UPS (United Parcel Service) and FedEx are doing just fine, right? No, they are,” said Obama. “It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.”
Did BO really say the postal service is messed up?! I kind of doubt that but regardless, the Federal Government does NOT run the USPS anyway. They may have something to do with appointing the Board Of Governors but that would be the extent of it. they do not support it in any way, and absolutely NO tax dollars go them.
I’ll agree that they misdeliver mail - happened to me at home just this week, and happens at my business regularly. Also, they don’t deliver my companies incoming Business Reply mail daily even though it is at the local station. We called yesterday to ask why and got an absolutely rude response from one of the station clerks - exact words were “are you going to ask me 20 questions or are you going to wait to talk to the Business Reply Mail clerk?“ Nice, huh? If one of my employees talked to a customer like that, they would be fired on the spot. Oh yeah, that clerk is a union guy - unless he commits a felony while on the job, he is employed for life! Another broken system for sure.
I see that the Postal Union has taken a page from the playbook of Acorn and SEIU showing up at the district managers home to protest! WHY take it to the mans home? take it too his office these are thug tactics that I for one dont agree with
your own messiah said last week
when asked (bear with me here im making a point)
“people ask me how were going to run this health care program and I tell them look at Fed Ex look at UPS there doing great its the post office thats messed up” (someone really needs to tell him that Fed ex and UPS are not I repeat NOT run by the govt its the POST OFFICE that they run and yes its screwed up BIG TIME and has been for years.
I think that is the ONLY thing that BO has ever said that I agree with at least once a week I have to deliver my neighbors mail because they (the postal carriers) stuff it all in my mail box and then the people down the street bring me my mail because the postal carrier is either to busy talking on the cell phone to concentrate on there job or they just dont care. and YES I have called it does no good
at one time yes maybe unions were a good thing and needed but not any more
Who cares if you loose your job. YOU did not care when I lost mine. Maybe your union boss thugs can have The Lord Most High Barack declare his 45 Czar- The USPS Czar!
43026 Dad, Small business owner, why didn’t you say so! Great you are one of the bones the back bones of the economy! I disagree that you deserve a discount when the postal service is by law and by definition from the Supreme court a Universal service mandated by the constitution and law. You see there is a great misconception that the PO is a government owned business it’s not. It’s an independent government agency that has not been tax payer subsidized for a long time! The last time tax money was used was in 82-83. If the postal service could borrow money like your business or other private business’s this “problem” would not be a problem. The PO has to borrow money from congress by law. It can’t make a deal with any public banks or institutions in regards to loans, know why? It’s an independent government agency! If it was private and all laws that applied to all businesses were applied then I believe you should get discounts. Send your junk mail through FedEx let’s see what kind of deal you get then lol! You said something else too that flipped a switch in my head. Earlier you said unions aren’t necessary! Then you said you own a small business and” I don’t need them to tell me how to run my business, and my employees feel the exact same way”. The reason you don’t need it is that you treat your people obviously well? You admitted earlier that management is screwed up but getting better. Imagine what a tax train wreak the PO would be with many running it not one? I do support most of what’s in the EFCA. What do you or others have to worry about if you treat your employees well already? What if you were your employees and you worked for a complete (insert explicative)?
Sweetheart deals? Nothing much wrong with giving small discounts to huge volume users, although the only one I was aware of was with Capital One. Those of us producing Standard (it is not called Bulk anymore, lol)do alot of the USPS’ work and we deserve the discounts. Or I should say our clients do so they can pay us! And I am a small business owner so I don’t have a lot of use for unions - I don’t need them to tell me how to run my business, and my employees feel the exact same way.
