Athens Gearing For Biggest Party Of The Year

ATHENS, Ohio—

Athens police had tallied more than 20 arrests between Friday night and Saturday morning as the college town geared up for the night that is traditionally the most rowdy of the year.  Most charges were misdemeanors related to alcohol use, according to police.  Officers said they expect Saturday night, October 31, to be the busier one of the two days. Not only students from Ohio University, but other young adults from all over, have learned that Athens celebrates Halloween in a big way.  Police and Sheriff’s deputies have learned to take the night in stride, reacting to the costumed and “civilian” revelers taking over the streets to have a good time.  One officer speculated that cooler temperatures may discourage a large crowd.
