A man riding his bike over a nearby bridge said he discovered the body when he stopped to take a break.

Taylor said he flagged down an oncoming fire truck and the crew members began a recovery effort.
Police said a fully-clothed female body was pulled from the water at about 12:45 p.m.
CPD’s homicide squad was called to the near South Side scene.
Police said they think the body was in the water for less than a day.

What an incredible friend you are. I am sorry for your pain and for that of her children and family.
I hope knowing you loved and cared deeply for her brings you some semblance of peace.
She was my neighbor. Out of respect, I will not give you her name.
This woman drowned by suicide. She walked into the water on her own early Tuesday morning. She attempted suicide on numerous occassions. She has suffered schizophrenia for fifteen years.
She often ran away to the river where she said it was peaceful. In the past, when she came back, we would make sure she cleaned up and fed her. This time was different for our friend.
The Mental Health system failed to put her in a group home where she would have friends and take her medicine.
I hope NBC looks into this and exposes the neglect of the system. She was a patient at South East on Long Street and South High Street.
My neighbors and I will miss her. She was a good woman. Before leaving the apartment today, she left her door open. Her place was spotless. She was singing and asking her Lord to take her home. Her illness got too much for her.
As I left her apartment, in prayer, I told her goodbye and I will miss her. She told me that she had to go…..I told her in prayer that it was all right. I pulled my bicycle over to the curb and cried many tears for her.
Please pray for her daughter, her son and my neighbors. I will cry more tonight.
