Buckeye Chuck Makes Prediction: 6 More Weeks

MARION, Ohio—Buckeye Chuck poked his head out of his winter burrow in Marion and predicted six more weeks of winter.

NBC 4 Photojournalist Joe Clark was out in Marion to give Central Ohio Buckeye Chuck’s prediction.

Buckeye Chuck predicted six more weeks of winter, and the crowd let out a groan, Clark reported.

By proclamation of the State of Ohio in 1979, Buckeye Chuck is Ohio’s official weather prognosticating groundhog.

For weeks, Chuck studied weather patterns, jet stream anomalies, ocean current and napping a lot in order to procure Ohio’s most accurate springtime forecast. 

Buckeye Chuck emerged from his personal den, in the woods behind the studios of WMRN Radio in Marion.

Chuck greeted his adoring public, local officials and reporters during the celebrated event.

Punxsutawney Phil also saw his shadow Monday.
