COLUMBUS, Ohio—A one-vehicle, serious-injury crash closed a portion of eastbound Interstate 270 for several hours Tuesday evening.

The following information was taken from an official release.

The Franklin County sheriff’s office continued to investigate a one-vehicle, serious-injury crash that happened on I-270 eastbound at US. Route 23 at about 5:53 p.m.

That’s on the city’s South Side.

A 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt lost control and drove more than 1,000 feet in the grass median before colliding head-on with a steel support pole for a traffic sign.

The vehicle caught fire after the crash.

Bystanders pulled 31-year-old Jeremy M. Stackhouse from the burning vehicle.

Stackhouse of Wilmington was transported to Grant Medical Center with serious injuries.

Seat belt usage was unknown.

Excessive speed was a factor in the crash, deputies said. A possible medical condition before the crash also might have been a factor. Alcohol and/or drugs were not suspected currently.

I-270’s eastbound lanes were partially closed during the investigation and clean up. The freeway was reopened completely around 8 p.m.

The crash remained under investigation.

My daughter is 21 years old.  She was one of the bystanders that stopped and help the young man.  She described a young person that was hurt badly.  Her experience is one she will never forget.  She held his head up so he could breath and told him he would be alright. I am so proud of her that she stopped to help.  Thank God the other people stopped and helped as well.  I pray he recovers.  I can’t believe the other comments on this are about the date and time this accident happened.  What difference does that make?  If this were your child, husband, brother, boyfriend you wouldn’t care. You’d be glad someone stopped.

Good point.  Mentioning somewhere that this accident happened on Oct 6 would avoid confusion.

“5:53 p.m” on October 7th?  What time zone? Because it’s not even 2:30pm, yet.
