COLUMBUS, Ohio – Columbus Arson Investigators are looking into two early morning fires on the city’s west side.

The first happened just before 2 a.m. on North Wayne Avenue.  Neighbors of the vacant home tell NBC 4 they saw someone running from the home just before they saw then flames.  Three hours later, Columbus Firefighters were called to a house on the same block, also another vacant home.

There were no injuries in either of the fires, but they are being called suspicious.

I live on N. Oakley and we are trying to clean up the area by starting block watches and community events. If anyone live in this area, please checkout our website: www.hwna.net

Both of the houses are across the street from my brother and sister inlaws house. The 2nd fire was at a duplex. The owner had told me he was gonna have it fixed up so he can rent it again. I kinda wonder if the owner had paid someone to burn it to get the insurance money for the duplex. More of these empty houses started to catch fire since the housing market went down and people lost jobs. Owners of these emply houses can go all out anymore just to keep from paying someone to fix the houses or paying some company to tear it down. Banks have been known to tear down a house and rebuild it just to get more money out of it rather then fix them and sell it for less.
