City Dept. To Tackle 4 Health Issues
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Monday marked the start of Public Health Week in Ohio, and Columbus Public Health wanted to tackle four big issues.
NBC 4’s Marcus Thorpe reported with the BOTTOM LINE.
CPH said it wants to remind residents of four key things that will help families and individuals.
No. 1 on the list was out-of-control childhood obesity.
Officials said if the crisis isn’t met head-on, it will cripple the health world.
Officials said now is the time to start curbing bad-eating habits.
Cut down on screen time, encourage exercise and practice what you preach. That means adults should teach healthy habits by leading by example.
No. 2 was to cut down on food-borne illness risks.
Wash your hands before you wash your fruits and veggies. Cook food to proper temperatures, and keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold.
No. 3 was protecting oneself against communicable diseases, which means getting proper tests.
Diseases are on the rise in Columbus and Central Ohio. CPH said it’s all about getting educated and following through.
No. 4 was vaccinations, including vaccinations for both children and adults. Adults need to look at vaccines for shingles, meningitis.
Health department officials also encouraged discussions on HPV or genital human papillomavirus (HPV), which is the most common sexually transmitted infection.
