COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Franklin County Dog Shelter is under new leadership.

After a controversial turn of events, Franklin County Commissioners made a decision Tuesday to establish stability in the organization, NBC 4‘s Tacoma Newsome reported.

According to a report which interviewed 33 employees of the Franklin County Animal Shelter, bullying was taking place at the business. The report said the director, Lisa Wahoff, was unpredictable, explosive and moody.

The result was the firing of Wahoff and assistant director Craig Turk. The commissioners announced Tuesday the new Interim Director Don Winstel.

Winstel brings extensive experience in administration at the Columbus Zoo and will handle the day-to-day operations. But it’s outside company Humane Logic that will help shape new shelter policies, like whether the shelter will remain a no-kill facility.

The consultant the commissioners hired will cost the county $35,000. Commissioners said that while they are taking a break on looking for a permanent replacement, they believe the interim director will provide the stability needed for the organization.
