COLUMBUS, Ohio—Columbus Public Health confirmed the first local H1N1 influenza fatality in a 20-year-old new mother Thursday.

sites and much more.

A 20-year-old female died early Thursday morning at an OhioHealth facility, according to CPH.

According to the Franklin County coroner, the woman was identified as Kelsey Renee Young, of Columbus.

Health officials said she went to the hospital with symptoms common in those with H1N1 and gave birth a few days ago.

According to family members, during the seventh month of her pregnancy, Kelsey began feeling ill and was having difficulty breathing.

At that time, Kelsey was admitted to the hospital, where x-ray tests of her lungs were conducted.

Family members said that doctors determined that the course of action would be to perform a cesarean section and then help her body recover.

The healthy baby was delivered and Kelsey began to recover.

According to a relative, that’s when test results were returned, confirming the diagnosis of H1N1.

Kelsey’s condition then started to decline, culminating in her death Thursday morning at Doctor’s Hospital at 5100 W. Broad St. on the city’s West Side.

Family members said the baby, Ava, is doing well at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

An autopsy will not be performed.

Thursday’s death was the third H1N1 flu death in Ohio. Two others were reported in June: a man who died in Butler County and a woman who died in Cuyahoga County.

CPH held a press conference Thursday afternoon to talk about Thursday’s death and H1N1 in at-risk groups.

The following information was released during the news conference:

Columbus Health Commissioner Dr. Teresa Long said the female was a patient of OhioHealth.

She said an OhioHealth team saved the baby’s life.

How she contracted the virus could not be confirmed currently, but she did not contract the influenza at the hospital.

Long said it reinforces the fact we are not immune from H1N1, especially pregnant women and young children.

Pregnant women and young children are the No. 1 risk group.

CPH asked obstetricians to step up and offer vaccines to pregnant women.

H1N1 risks should be talked about during prenatal care, and all women should seek prenatal care.

Pregnant women are taking care of two, which puts them in a compromised position health-wise.

Pregnant women who feel like they have a fever, chills or sweats, headaches or a sore throat should be checked immediately.

Anti-viral drugs can be prescribed.

Pregnant women should get a seasonal flu vaccine, and when the H1N1 vaccine becomes available in October, they should get it.

Vaccines will go directly to hospitals and health providers and will be handed out in a tiered system. Pregnant women will take high-priority.

People who are in at-risk groups—including the elderly, pregnant women and children—may consider staying away from crowded places.

Everyone should be taking steps now to prevent the spread of H1N1.

No more immediate details were available.

yes Staggerlee97, I suppose the answer to everything is Hemp.  Right.  Keep on thinking that and keep your mind all blazed out on weed.  That way the Government will never get you, or you will never know it, or care.  Maybe Big Brother is putting stuff in your weed and you don’t even know it.  Hmm, what a thought.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it.  Oh, and when you reach for your munchies, think of all the garbage you are eating.  Might be something in them also.  Think about it and you’ll realize how paranoid and nuts that all sounds.  Enough.  I’m done with potheads and paranoids and will concentrate on all the real posts.  Got bless this family and the little Ava.

I am not expert on this and have not researched all the facts, but I have listened to many interviews about this topic and I do know the history of the 1918 pandemic. I think the concern with the Swine flu is that a lot of people are going to get sick. That doesn’t mean there are going to be a lot of deaths especially when you consider that over 30,000 people die each year from the seasonal flu. I do think it is plausible that schools may shut down which is the policy once a certain percent of the student population is sick from any illness. Typically, a flu that is widespread that starts in the Spring is mild and then comes back furiously in the fall, late September/October. For the H1N1, I also think that it will affect young people more because the people that were alive in 1976 may have been exposed to a similar virus and already have some immunity to it.

The vaccine in 1976 was very different than the vaccines they have now. In 1976 they used whole viruses, not broken up pieces like they do today and drug companies have a lot more experience and success making vaccinations now. Every health care professional I have spoken to over the years says it is impossible to get the flu from the vaccination (seasonal flu) because the virus is dead. I don’t know about the mercury levels, but every vaccination has risks. It is an individual decision about whether you want to do everything you can to avoid getting sick. I would not want hospitals to be short-staffed. I am sure there are people who can’t afford to miss 7-10 days of work especially if they don’t get paid for that time.

Not to lessen the tragedy here, but I believe there is a little sensational reporting going on by calling this death the ‘result’ of H1N1.  This girl was in the last months of her pregnancy, obviously not in the best of physical shape for child birth and with the flu.  All of which causes stress on the heart. To say that H1N1, which is a milder version of the flu by all accounts, was the cause paints the story in a much more sensational light.  Just a thought.

We have been taking care of ourselves forever with no help from the goverment. But we need to teach our government to help us out when needed but stay out of our business and allow us to make a living. Hemp for Victory!!!!!

MissyAnn
Glenn Beck has nothing to do with the insensitive people that posted earlier!
he does not condone people being rude or insensitive, ask questions and demand answers yes rude or insensitive NO.

this was posted on the Drudge Report this morning in an article regarding “Pandemic Response Bill” 2028 for the state of Massachusetts

Cure more deadly than disease?

Although White House science advisers have warned that up to 90,000 Americans might die from H1N1 during the coming flu season, the head of the CDC responded by telling the public to ignore such a high mortality estimate, saying the current H1N1 couldn’t kill that many people without mutating.

Use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 resulted in 25 people suffering from severe paralysis and dying from respiratory failure after being injected with the vaccine – more than the number of lives claimed from the virus itself.

Additionally, the vaccine is said to contain thimerosal, a preservative ingredient composed of mercury.

The FDA states, “Thimerosal has been removed from or reduced to trace amounts in all vaccines routinely recommended for children 6 years of age and younger, with the exception of inactivated influenza vaccine.“

Thimerosal has been linked to Guillain-Barre syndrome, or GBS – a serious disorder that occurs when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the nervous system and may result in death.

In 1976, health officials found nearly 500 cases of GBS, and the vaccine was withdrawn 10 weeks after the link with GBS was suspected. Following the 1976 vaccination against swine flu in the U.S., a retrospective study found a likely eight-fold increase in the incidence of GBS.

Now that the nation is preparing for another round of H1N1 flu shots, the Oregonian reported that the federal government is urging neurologists to keep a close watch for new cases of GBS.

In a study conducted at the University of Hong Kong, the British Medical Journal reported that less than half of 8,500 doctors and nurses in public hospitals will accept vaccination against the swine flu – even following increases in the World Health Organization’s pandemic alert level.

The study revealed, “The major barriers identified were fear of side effects and doubts about efficacy.“

According to the following report by Russia Today, investigative journalist Wayne Madsen revealed that even scientists who helped develop a vaccine for small pox are saying they will not take the vaccine and urging friends and family to refrain from taking the injection as well:

MissyAnn, I meant to say that my friend listens to FOX and not CNN and he to, is an avid Glen Beck, Ann Coulter and Bill O’Riley viewer. We used to be married, but just live together now.  Needless to say, I can’t stand his TV viewing and he has his own den that he can watch all that trash.  Makes for a much better relationship.  As long as he doesn’t talk that stuff to me, then we get along fine.  We agree that he doesn’t impose that horrible channel on me and I don’t impose HGTV or Food Channel on him when we watch TV together.  When we go to bed, TV is neutral (though I awake in the night to find the channel turned to Fox so I just turn it to the Food Channel, HA!  The story is that a young woman lost her life to something the Government has nothing to do with.  It’s a shame and as far as I’m concerned our government would want to start an epidemic of this flu.  What good would possible come of it.  It must be horrible to be so paranoid as some people are.  Sounds like they would turn in their Mothers to the “Anti-Government” police if Mama disagreed with the idiot-ology.  I’m just glad that I’m not so wrapped up with negative and feer mongering that it controls my life.  In this stage of my life, I’m busy focusing on the good things that happen and putting aside the bad.  Good for you for commenting and God Bless this unfortunate woman’s family and little daughter.

I really get tired of people with hateful messages.  There are people out there, like my husband who listens only to Glen Beck and thinks that is gospel, that can only listen to one side of the story.  You can’t tell them anything.  I have seen people sent to prison with no evidence because jurors only listen to one side of the story.  People need to wake up and see things as a whole and not only one side of it.  This is a tragedy that this woman died from this and it was not the governments fault.

Judging by at least one poster here, I sense a belief in those looney tunes Illuminati mind-control conspiracies. Get out the foil hats, people!
