CHILLICOTHE, Ohio—A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries after a deer ran out in front of him Sunday afternoon.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Freddie M. Reedy, 54, of Rarden, was operating a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on U.S. Route 23 at Eastern Avenue.

He struck a deer that was trying to cross the roadway. Reedy next struck the roadway and a concrete bridge rail.

The one-vehicle crash happened at 3:26 p.m., according to troopers.

Reedy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol Chillicothe post.

He suffered a head injury.

Reedy was transported from the scene to Adena Regional Medical Center by Scioto Township EMS and later flown to OSU Medical Center Main by Med-Flight.

Reedy remained still in serious condition early Monday.

Reedy was operating his motorcycle with a suspended license, troopers said.

The crash remained under investigation.

Re licensed or not

Ms. Willis reported that the patrol said the license was suspended.

The patrol accessed a BMV data base to learn the license status.

I see multiple opportunities for error, if any.

Data entry to the BMV data base.
Lag between reinstatement and and data entry.
OSHP error in relating status.
Ms. Willis error.

Although now and then Ms. Willis errs, as we all do, she KNOW that I watch her reports as a hungry eagle eyeballing fish. :-)

For the present, if I must make a decision, I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt.

:-)
If she made a mistake, she owes me a donut.

Thank you to Junk runner. I appriciate your response to the negative comments. Fred is a close personal friend, I see on a daily basis, and everyone is way to quick to belive the media and the cops, on whatever they say is true. Fred does not have a suspended license, and for everyone claiming he is dumb and making jokes about the deer, put yourself in his and his familys situation. How would you feel if you were laying in a hospital bed fighting for your life, because on an inoocent bike ride? How would you feel if someone you cared about, a family member was in dyer conditions, and people were negatively leaving comments as he lay in bed…fighting for every breath? His license WAS previously suspended over an insurance issue, NOT a speeding issue, or any other issue, and has been reinstated for over a year now.

To all of you who think its so funny, get a life and dont waste your time, laughing at other peopls misery.

And it may be legal to ride without a helmet but it sure is stupid too.

Regardless of how “spot-on” his driving was he shouldn’t have been driving under a suspended license.

Why would he get a wreckless op ticket for a deer that jumped on him?  His riding was spot on speed was not an issue.  The deer was the issue.  I know I was there.

I think that any person on a motorcycle whether it be driver or passenger or even if you have 30 years experiance should have to wear a helmet you have no protection on a motorcycle but when you get in your car state law gotta buckle up…I think our laws need an overhaulin…I Bet he gets a wreckless operation ticket…To bad he is’nt a trooper or cop or he would get away with it…..

It may be considered stupid to do a lot of things but in this life we are all guilty of stupid things. Thank god we don’t all get arrested for things others think are stupid. Others are entitled to their opinions but often they spew them with a closed mind. A helmet can be a good or a bad thing for a rider, having the ability to choose is how it should be. Often those driving cars and trucks are the issue, having been run off the road a few times or having someone turn in front of me, I can say most often it is the woman putting on her makeup or the guy drinking his coffee or shaving that cause the problems. Statistics show, more are killed from body trama than head injuries… So… Think First…

Helmet or no Helmet is NOT the issue.  The issue is that a man, husband, father, son is lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life.  I can not see where there is any room or need for negative comments here.

Freddie was riding alone.  I was leading a large group of motorcyclists who were just behind Freddie when the accident happened.  We had several medics and nurses riding with us and they were able to provide immediate medical attention to Freddie.

In answer to an earlier question the deer was somewhat large.  Probably close to 200lbs.  The deer jumped as Freddie tried to manuver around it.  The dee landed on Freddie knocking him off his bike.

My prayers are with Freddie and his family.
