Deputies Investigating Suspicious Death

MALTA, Ohio – The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a suspicious death that occurred in Malta on Tuesday.  A call for help was received in the dispatch center at 1:37 p.m. and when deputies arrived, they found Abi Matthews, 35 of Malta dead on the floor.  Multiple agencies are involved with the investigation that revealed Matthews was struck several times with a blunt object.  It further revealed the victim’s car was missing from the residence and later found burned-out in Malta Township.  After interviewing family and friends of the deceased, detectives identified a possible suspect.  The suspect was apprehended and confessed to investigators he had an altercation with Matthews, took the car and set it on fire.  Police are not releasing the name of the suspect at this time, but he is currently incarcerated pending the filing of formal charges.
