Driver Rescues Toddler Crawling In Street
Published: August 9, 2009
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio—A driver on her way to work Friday stopped to rescue a 14-month-old boy she found crawling in the middle of a busy street. Rachel Downey found the child at an intersection in South Euclid in suburban Cleveland about 8:45 a.m. Downey hit the brakes, jumped out of her car and grabbed the boy. After a brief search she found the boy’s mother in a nearby house. Police say the boy apparently wandered out of the house when a door was left open. Police Lt. Jeff Meyers said the case is under investigation and has been referred to county social workers.

What’s wrong with people these days? Once you have a baby, it’s supposed to be all about them..nothing should be more important than keeping that baby safe…
I understand what you all are saying I was pointing out that chan 4 left out MOST of the story AGAIN there is even more to it then what I posted
The point of the matter Eyes is that the mother still should have taken the baby with her. Now yes 16 month old and she is a quick one, but I do know where she is at, at all times, as I do my other 2. The joys of parenthood are all to often taken for granted, hence the reason why mothers cannot “pee in peace”.
I know (as a mother of 4 with one on the way) that I am not going to allow “strangers” to disrupt my home to the point of endangering my children. Furthermore, it is not the job of the older siblings to watch the child. I always check that my 13-month old daughter is safe and secure wether it be in her high-chair or her playpen before I have to leave the room for any amount of time. If it is going to be an extended amount of time, (like the amount of time it would have taken this child to get into the street) she comes with me!! IT IS A MOTHER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP HER CHILDREN SAFE! No excuses.
What this article failed to mention is that the Mother and her 2 children were at their home that WAS UNDER CONSTRUCTION
a CONSTRUCTION WORKER left the door open and the child slipped out if you have ever been around a 14 month old they are like greased lightning the mother ran up stairs for a moment to consult with the contractor the 14 month old was downstairs with her older sibling
accuracy AND COMPLETE STORIES matter!!!!
Where were the parents, and what were they doing to not notice their 14 month old child crawl OUT of the house? And how far exactly is the busy intersection from their house? reason I ask is WOW if its far kudo’s to you people on lack of parenting (insert sarcasm of course). I know where my children are at all times, if my door is open my screen is closed and locked, if not then I have my baby gate up and my kids are not in that room unless I am. As for the woman who rescued the child, good job to you. At least someone was paying attention.
kudos Rachel. I bet that made her day.
