Dublin Teen Allegedly Leads Deputies On High-Speed Chase

A teen allegedly led sheriff’s deputies on a two-county high-speed pursuit early Thursday.
MADISON COUNTY, Ohio—A Dublin teenager led sheriff’s deputies on a two-county high-speed pursuit Thursday morning, according to authorities.
NBC 4’s sister paper, The Marion Press, reported on this story Friday and shared it with nbc4i.com.
A 15-year-old Dublin youth led the Madison County sheriff’s office on a high-speed chase early Thursday, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputy Tim Winebrenner witnessed a brown Chevrolet Astro van run a stop sign at Price Hilliard and Plain City-Georgesville roads at approximately 12:43 a.m.
When the deputy pulled behind the van and attempted a traffic stop, the van allegedly accelerated.
Winebrenner followed the van on several roads in both Madison and Franklin counties at speeds of more than 90 mph, according to authorities.
Once the chase reached Guy Avenue, Sgt. John Swaney deployed stop sticks, and two of the van’s tires went flat.
The van turned right on Amish Pike and came to a stop in a driveway, where the driver then fled on foot into the field behind a house, the paper reported.
Winebrenner requested a K-9 unit, and the juvenile eventually was found hiding under a bridge on Lafayette-Plain City Road.
The juvenile was arrested without incident, according to authorities, and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Marysville.
The sheriff’s office made contact with Dublin police who contacted the youth’s grandparents.
The grandparents confirmed the van belonged to them and the teen took the van without their permission.
The youth faced a multitude of charges, including one felony and several traffic violations.
The 15-year-old was charged with fleeing and eluding, which is a third-degree felony if committed by an adult.
The youth also faced a first-degree misdemeanor charge for taking the van from his grandparents.
On the traffic side, the youth was charged with stop sign, reckless operation, driving without a valid driver’s license, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and failure to comply with order or signal of a police officer.
The charges will be handled by the Juvenile Division of the Madison County Court of Common Pleas.

Reader Reactions
Good Wednesday morning, Colsbucks. Please forgive me. I thought I had read carefully.
ERROR CLUE 1: “NBC 4’s sister paper, The Marion Press, reported on this story Friday and shared it with nbc4i.com.“
ERROR CLUE 2: “This story is courtesy of Brian McKinney and The Madison Press.“
ERROR CLUE 3: “Posted by ( Colsbucks ) on February 06, 2009 at 1:43 pm
‘The Marion Press’? I think I would be safe to say that your information was received from ‘The Madison Press’, in Madison County.
=================================================================
Not trusting either TV-4 :-) OR you -:), I checked Google for correct name of Marion newspaper, then the Madison Press to confirm that Brian McKinney was an employee.
Next I cut and pasted a portion of YOUR comment, “‘The Marion Press’? I think I would be safe to say that your [NBC4i] information was received from ‘The Madison Press’, in Madison County.“
Alas, I erred trying to succinctly post.
My 25 Feb 09 phrase “Colsbucks 06 Feb 09, 1:43 pm:
‘The Marion Press’?
Correct,“ was to confirm the accuracy of your 06 Feb post.
My 25 Feb 09 phrase “The Marion paper is the Marion Star,“ was to alert those NOT familiar with the name of the Marion newspaper, that it was the “Star” and NOT the “Press,“ as reported on the web by Donna Willis, Captain of good ship “Web Content.“
What really surprised me was the lack of correction as I type this 25th day of February!
I refrained from emailing TV-4 a correction, because I have pestered Ms. Willis (and other TV-4 folks) enough in the past.
INDICTMENT
THE LOYAL TV-4 VIEWERS V. MS. DONNA WILLIS, WEB CONTENT COORDINATOR
Ms. Donna Willis, Web Content Coordinator, WCMH-NBC-4, is accused of doing what she ought not to have done and failing to do what she ought to have done. The charge may be perceived as a tad nebulous and unfair, but life is unfair and the defendant will just have to deal with it. To paraphrase Ms. Nancy, “Just do no wrong.“
MOTION
Colsbucks, I move that you and I form a two member hearing panel, hold a “Viewer’s Mast” in the Queen of Hearts Kangaroo Court of Star Chamber.
We punish Ms. Willis (verdict first, trial afterward) and instead of “off with her head.“ We sentence Ms. Willis to attend a penance conference at the new Broad & High Dunkin’ Donuts restaurant, with TV-4 picking up the pastry/beverage/etc. tab. I can think of no better community service than to reward you and me for our keen eyes and astute perspective on accurate news reporting.
Colsbucks, I urge you to join me in this motion and urge you to vote for a VERDICT of GUILTY against Ms. Willis. I am retired and have a reasonably flexible schedule for eating. My titanium lined stomach can survive unbelievable fat & calorie abuse 24/7.
If you and I can not agree on Ms. Willis’s punishment, then we can ask Colleen Marshall, Esq. to break our tie vote. If Ms. Marshall agrees to the proposed verdict and sentence, she too could join the calorie/fat fest-orgy (a festive indulgence of available Dunkin’ Donuts food with no regard to calories, fat content, etc.) We could even hold a “trial” after we properly load our digestive systems with appropriate Dunkin’ Donuts’ pastries and beverages.

C’mon? Do you honestly think NBC4 got their material from the Marion Star, in Marion County? When in fact, the incident occurred in Madison County, covered by the Madison Press. Read more carefully.

Why not give the kids name ?
Good point. Not even gender was given.

I believe chargers go to county where offense was committed. It appears he?she offended in both counties.
‘The Marion Press’? I think I would be safe to say that your information was received from ‘The Madison Press’, in Madison County. It is just like the media to rush (again) to publish the information before another media outlet without proof reading their material. At least you’re consistent.
Why not give the kids name ? At 15 a kid can be charged as an adult or is it because kid is from Dublin and not the eastside ?
And is everyone so sure that the cahrges will be heard in Madison County ? If kid lived in Franklin don’t charges go to county where kid lives ?
