Elementary Students To Enjoy Renovated Building

COLUMBUS, Ohio —Some Columbus City Schools students heading back to class will enjoy a new environment.

Officials at the Southwood Elementary School opened the school Tuesday morning for parents to see after major renovations.

The building is 115 years old and there was only one restroom for all the children.

Now, there is water in every room and restrooms in all the primary classes.

“They have 21st Century computers. They have something called thin client and you can plug the computer into the 42-inch flat-screen TV and display. The teacher can display whatever she needs to teach,“ said Carla Gale, principal.

Crews also installed air conditions throughout the building.

Teachers and parents who toured the building told the principal that they’re excited to start the school year.

IF IT WEREN’T FOR MY TEACHER I WOULDN’T BE ABLE TO READ. I STRUGGLED WITH READING AND THEY ASSESSED THE PROBLEM, GOT ME INTO A SPECIAL READING CLASS. IN MY MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS I WAS READING AT A HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL. I LOVE TO READ.

IT WAS WERE I FIRST HEARD ELTON JOHN’S SONG CROCODILE ROCK AND MY DESK WAS PLASTERED WITH GOOD CITIZENSHIP STAMPS THAT WE EARNED.

IT WAS THE GREATEST YEAR OF ALL.

THANKS FOR SAVING THE SCHOOL AND FOR ALL THE MEMORIES.

Thanks again for the clarification. I’ve removed the reference to the address.

I believe that it states that it is Southwood @ Reeb which is where Southwood was located while they renovated the building.  I work for CCS and the renovated Southwood is located at 1500 S 4th Street which is between Markison and Southwood Avenues. Take a trip to the new building and you will see where it actually is.

Grandma, Thanks for alerting me to the error.

You’re correct, it is Carla Gale, not Dale and that has been corrected in the article.

However, according to Columbus City Schools’ web site, Southwood Elementary School is on Reeb Avenue:

Thanks,

I enjoyed walking through Southwood today what a fantastic job.  But a few corrections to the article.  Southwood is on S. 4th St not on Reeb Ave and the principal is Carla Gale not Carla Dale.  Why don’t you ever get information concerning CCS schools correct.
