Fiery Semi-Versus-Car Crash Injures 1

MARION, Ohio—A passenger vehicle and a loaded tractor trailer crashed early Monday morning.

Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol continued to investigate a serious injury crash involving a passenger vehicle and a loaded semi- tractor trailer.

Dispatchers received a report of a multi-vehicle crash on state Route 309 near Osbun Road at about 5:54 a.m. Monday.

The initial call advised that one of the vehicles was on fire.

Troopers responding from the Marion Post arrived at the scene and found that the semi was burning in the ditch along the roadway and that a Chevrolet Blazer with severe damage was on the berm nearby.

Fire personnel were on the scene, and the blaze was quickly extinguished, but the semi-tractor was completely destroyed.

The semi, which had been eastbound on S.R. 309, was loaded with two coils of steel and had been enroute from Precision Strip, in Kenton, to Whirlpool in Marion.

The driver of the semi, Troy Bowdle, 36, of Belle Center was not injured and was able to exit his semi before it was consumed by the fire.

The driver of the Chevrolet Blazer, Adam Mattix, 37, of Morral, was trapped inside of the vehicle and was extricated by EMS personnel with mechanical means. He was transported by Life Flight to OSU Medical Center in Columbus, where he is in serious condition.

The Blazer was traveling westbound on S.R. 309 and went left of center, striking the semi head-on, according to OSP.

The crash remained under investigation.
