A vacant apartment building catches fire early Thursday morning, and CFD continues to investigate the cause.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—A vacant apartment building caught fire early Thursday morning, and CFD continued to investigate the cause.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Columbus fire was dispatched to a two-story apartment building at Smith and Lockborne roads at about 2:40 a.m. That’s on the city’s South Side

Firefighters found heavy fire in two bottom-floor apartments.

The flames quickly spread throughout the structure, and a second alarm was called.

About 95 firefighters responded to the scene and fought the flames for about two hours.

Initial reports indicated a person was trapped in the burning building.

No victims were found, and there weren’t any reported injuries, CFD said.

The building is a vacant structure but might have been occupied by numerous vagrants, according to Columbus fire.

Confirmed from chief whiting——-in april of 2008 a woman (squatter) DIED at this same location in a fire.

CFD Battalion Chief David Whiting said a female died in a fire at the same address in April 2008.

CFD estimated the damage at $200,000.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

If this building is vacant, and someone has already died in a fire there, why not surround it to prevent the spread of fire and let the place burn to the ground?  Then no squatters will be living there anymore….
