West Side Homeless Shelter Catches Fire

Fire crews battle a fire at a local homeless shelter Tuesday night.
COLUMBUS, Ohio—Fire crews were called to a local homeless shelter after a fire broke out Tuesday night.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Columbus fire was called to the Homeless Families Foundation at 651 W. Broad St. shortly after 8 p.m.
Some residents used the fire escape to get down from the burning second floor.
About 50 residents were inside the shelter at the time of the fire. Everyone escaped safely.
No one was hurt during the blaze.
People staying at the shelter, including children, had to find another place to spend the night.
The American Red Cross was called to assist and said about 15 people were taken to the YWCA Family Center or a local hotel for the night.
Firefighters told NBC 4 they estimated the damage at $20,000.
The shelter asked for donations to replace items that were lost in the fire.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
