COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Children’s Hunger Alliance says 500,000 children in the state could be going hungry, or not getting proper nutrition this summer.

There are free summer food programs around the area, and their numbers are way up.

In Reynoldsburg, the food service director says their food sites are up about six times what they were a few years ago.

Families say the tough economic times are causing tough decisions, and these free sites fill a tremendous gap.
