Topless At Comfest: Take It Off Or Leave It On?

COLUMBUS, Ohio—It is legal for a woman to go topless in Columbus.  And every year some choose to use that right at Community Festival (Comfest).

This year, GoTopless.org is using the Comfest platform to encourage more women to lose the top.

Some parents say they will keep their families away because of what they could see, while others are using the opportunity to show others they believe there is nothing to hide.

Lauren Damon is a new mother, and is organizing a nurse-in for mothers to be able to breastfeed in public.

Her group will set up at Goodale Park this weekend during Comfest to try and breakdown stigmas associated with breastfeeding.

Some are more understanding of mothers nursing, while saying they are not comfortable with women showing their breasts just because they can.

Others say if a man can go topless, so can women.

The law is clear, there is no legal difference between a man’s and a woman’s chest.  It is discrimination, and forbidden under the anti-descrimination laws.  If people do not make a big deal out of it, it won’t be a big deal.

I agree that everyone has the right to make the rules for their own households.  When my kids come of age to drink then they can partake but until then they cannot.  I have shared some of my past with my kids, what I feel is age appropriate for them to be able to understand. All in an effort to open dialogue about consequences.  They also understand that if they happen to break the law with underage drinking or get caught with drugs they will get to spend the night in jail and not get bailed out of jail right away by mommy running to the rescue.  Consequences for ones own actions is a wonderful teacher.

and any parent that said they have never ever experimented in their lifetime, is probably denying their past.

I should hope parents would advise against drug use,but most will tell you they have experimented around(never met anyone that hadn’t smoked or drank when teens). One can only hope as a parent, that there was enough communication between parent and child ,that said child could turn to his/her parent for help, rather than hide in fear.

don’t know, I don’t mind drinking if they are college age but if I ever caught one of my kids with pot…It would be a very bad time for them

I remember my mother telling me pot is illegall and we dont drink in this house.
That works when you show your children people drinking and smoking dope laughing it up and enjoying themselves.
I wonder how many people partying today had their parents tell them it isnt right ?

I have taken my children to comfest for several years, and yes they have seen bare breasts.  My children are well adjusted well behaved young adolescents, pre adolescents with a healthy respect for their personal space and their own bodies. My 11 yo son could not care less about what he sees painted on womens breasts at comfest.  My kids are both straight A students in Worthington schools.  I also just steer clear of pot smoke and remind the kids that marijuana is illegal and that our household is a drug and alcohol free environment.  However in our community (hence the name) others are of differing opinions and they have the right to express that.

I went onto the cite. I cannot believe they are comparing a womans chest to a mans. Do these ppl have children, if so they must be raising them to be extremely successful…..in Vegas.
