LITHOPOLIS, Ohio—A Fairfield County sheriff’s cruiser was involved in a crash that killed one person Saturday night.
NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.
Fairfield County dispatchers indicated a mechanic was driving the cruiser, which was not involved in active duty at the time of the crash. The crash happened shortly before 10 p.m.
The cruiser was being driven on Lithopolis-Winchester Road, near Waterloo Road, when an oncoming vehicle allegedly crossed the center line and hit the cruiser head-on.
Authorities said the mechanic might have been taking the cruiser to Canal Winchester, where Fairfield deputies use cruisers purchased by the city to patrol the local streets.
Law enforcement said a passenger was in the cruiser, too.
The driver of the second vehicle and the mechanic and his passenger in the cruiser were taken to Grant Medical Center.
The driver of the second vehicle died at Grant, according to authorities.
No more immediate information was available, and the crash remained under investigation.

Leslie - First off, I am deeply sorry for what your family is going through right now and I pray for a speedy recovery to them. Please don’t pay any attention to some of the commenters on here. If you glance through comments on other cop related stories you will see that no matter what the circumstances there are some ignorant people that will always find fault with the cops, no matter what the story. They take any cop related story as an opportunity to bash the police and submit their conspiracy theories every chance they get. DON’T LET THEM GET TO YOU!!! Their narrow minded ignorance is obvious.
rmako…
1) Somehow things became PERSONAL with you???
2) And simply for your edification, yes, the world needs a whole lot more cynical people.
Well anonymous, with your attitude I sure hope you aren’t of breeding age. The world certainly doesn’t need anymore cnynical jerks.
The driver of the cop car is a family member of mine and it really is sad that all people can focus on is why his wife was in the car? Not that he was in a horrible accident where he and his wife were terribly injured, which was not his fault or his wifes. The other car crossed over into his lane and hit them head on, PERIOD. If they were not driving the cop car would they be getting this type of trash talked about them, probably NOT. All I can say is this is really, really sad, lives have been ruined and all you people can do is talk TRASH….
to add wow09 never been in trouble in jail or prison wife works with law enforcement and i know how they work…....
wow09 funny if cops took a week off it would only save taxpayers money. you see a shooting in columbus on the news they got 50 cops there but none of there crimes ever get solved unless the shooter committs sucide. or turns himself in. and if the cops and court were that worried about the citizens then lock there butt up. america puts people in prison for 3 life terms and they dont see the chair until 10 years. taxpayers dollars..one state sentenced a guy to death and death penatly is against that states law makes no sence..in prison there is no realbiliation to help one that gets out cant get a job and they want that person to try to live and feed themselves…bottom line is a cop, prison, court does not want to solve or help a person get back on there feet if they did they would have no job security..dont help the people and the crime stays the same or goes up..job security.. in the news paper woman gets an ovi 3 days in jail or 3 days in alchol school she picks the school cause medical card will pay for it. thats whats wrong with this contry.
Really Anonymous, now I know you are truley ignorant. One of the most protected jobs huh? why don’t you go to www.odmp.org and tell the 112 national officers killed this year that their job is soo protected. Your giving me stats that you pull from your a*&% about work related death. If a minor gets killed falling in a cave, that is a little different than being murdered by the scum of the earth (which you appear to be one) just because of what you try to do for the community. You people make me sick. PLEASE ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT, STOP WORKING AND LET THE CITIZENS FEND FOR THEMSELVES. DONT DO ANYTHING FOR 1 WEEK, THEN WE WILL SEE WHAT OTHER IGNORANT THINGS PEOPLE CAN SAY. Ohhh I hate the police because I can’t do what I want. GROW UP.
wow09…......I would agree with you about the “..kiss your family…“ garbage before you leave for work because they don’t know for sure if they’ll be coming home…..
Check your statistics!! A general factory worker is some 60% more likely to not come home due to a work-related incident than a cop…...A professional is some 40% more likely. In reality, cops are one of the most PROTECTED professions there is! Rarely are they going to be the target of a crime…..THEY’RE WEARING A GUN!!!
Like I said, this isn’t a valid venue to discuss this issue, but I truly wish it were!! One last comment…....“The ‘police gang’ doesn’t commit crimes against people…“ Oh yes they do!!! They’re just not as likely to get caught! I could give you some specifics, but this isn’t the forum for that. Sorry.
Gee, whats the difference between the “police gang” and the bloods and the crips. Just another stupid comment by someone that doesn’t know how to act right in society. Isn’t it funny how the only people who hate cops are the ones that end up in jail, or are constantly charged with a crime. Let me see if I can walk another moron through this one. The “police gang” doesn’t commit crimes against people, sell drugs or harm others (of course those that don’t deserve it). What a stupid comment. Why don’t you try putting on a bullet proof vest, and a gun before you go to work, kiss your family and hope you see them later, knowing the only reason you have to do that is because people, DONT KNOW HOW TO ACT. Get over the police hatred.
All I can say is that it sickens me that my family and my friends go to work everyday and risk their lives for people who couldn’t give two licks about them just because they are cops. It’s stereotyping and it’s ignorant. If one of my family members or friends loose their life on the job I can only hope and pray that it was for someone who was actually worth it and not for someone who despises them strictly for their profession.
