How To Jump Start Your Career

COLUMBUS, Ohio —With unemployment rates still rising, many Central Ohioans are in need of jump starting their careers.

First way to do so? Turn to Uncle Sam. The Department of Labor sponsors a Web site called http://www.careeronestop.org. You can find a list of industries with the largest employment and those projected to grow. The Web site can also help you locate colleges or other training programs that offer classes in your field of interest.

Another good source? Non-profit and Goodwill organizations train people for jobs in information technology, health care, retail, banking and landscape.

The organization said it helps place someone in a job every 53 seconds.

Goodwill can also help people write resumes, practice interviewing skills and conduct job searches.

Another idea is starting your own business. If you’ve always wanted to be your own boss, there’s no better time like the present. Go to the U.S. Small Business Administration at http://www.sba.gov, where you’ll be able to download online courses with topics on how to start your own business.
