COLUMBUS, Ohio—Officials said they believe they know the identity of the person who was found floating in a pond on the city’s north side this week.

Children who were fishing discovered the body in the pond, located at Shanley Drive and Dresden Street before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Franklin County Coroner Dr. Jan M. Gorniak said the person has been tentatively identified, but the identity has not yet been confirmed.

Gorniak said the person is a 20-year-old man, who is Hispanic. An autopsy revealed conditions that are consistent with drowning.

Officials added that they believe the body had been in the water for approximately three days.

Homicide detectives said Thursday they do not believe foul play was involved.

The pond is located near to the former Northland Mall site, just south of Morse Road.

A chain-link fence surrounds the pond, but an employee of a nearby apartment complex told NBC 4 there are openings where people can get through.
