Kings Island Touts New $22 Million Roller Coaster
Published: April 11, 2009
MASON, Ohio—Officials at Ohio’s Kings Island amusement park hope a new roller coaster will help attract cash-strapped people who are relaxing near home this summer instead of taking expensive vacations. The $22 million steel Diamondback will be the tallest, fastest and most expensive roller coaster at the park north of Cincinnati when it opens April 18. The three-minute ride begins with a 215-foot plunge, climbs to 230 feet at its highest point and travels up to 80 mph.
Kings Island spokesman Don Helbig says the likelihood that some people will look for fun close to home is good news for amusement parks and other local attractions. Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. owns Kings Island and its sister park, Cedar Point, in Sandusky.
