DELAWARE, Ohio—A local Kroger store was scheduled to close its doors in late October.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

The Kroger Co. announced Friday it will close its Delaware store, located at 159 S. Sandusky St., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009.

“In the highly competitive grocery industry, Kroger continually evaluates each store’s performance to ensure that it is best meeting the needs of the communities, associates and stockholders we serve,” said Bruce Macaulay, president of Kroger’s Columbus Division.

Macaulay said Kroger was unable to continue a profitable operation at the location.

Kroger will offer all Sandusky Street store associates the opportunity to transfer to other Kroger locations within the surrounding area, according to Macaulay.

A new Kroger Marketplace store was slated to open in Orange Township in November.
