Girl Struck By Stray Bullet At Red, White & Boom!
COLUMBUS, Ohio—A 16-year-old girl is recovering after being shot by a stray bullet at Red, White & Boom!
Jasmine Coleman Sammur was struck in the chest by a bullet last Friday. Investigators said the gun was fired into the air in celebration.
“The doctor came back with the photo and said, ‘You need to go to church on Sunday because you are one lucky girl,‘“ said Tracey Coleman Sammur, the victim’s mom.
“I didn’t even get to see the fireworks. I didn’t get my funnel cake,“ Jasmine said.
Police said the gunshot could have been fired from more than a mile away.
The bullet is still inside Jasmine. She has an appointment on Wednesday to have it examined.

If you choose to be a gun owner, you need to realize something. A gun is not a multiple use item, it is not like a swiss army knife with 30 different uses, guns do not come with attachments for different applications…A gun has one purpose behind its design and one purpose only, to kill. You are buying something that was designed solely for the purpose of killing either in defense or for hunting purposes only use it in those times…defense or hunting
For Dano:
if guns were banned then only criminals would have them. guns don’t kill it is the person who pulls the trigger.
Well said Mike. You’re an example of a responsible and thus respectable gun owner. I truly wish all who handled guns were as thoroughly trained as you claim.
To Dano, I have to admit there’s a part of me that would like to see guns disappear too, but there’s a reality that can not be ignored. Guns are out there and there are people who will acquire them. Focusing our energy on more productive methods could lead to positive change - spouting off blanket statements as you are is neither helpful nor productive. I think you’re “except for hunting game” argument is a very weak one - a gun is a gun and a mishandled gun is a dangerous gun.
Banning guns is not going to keep them out of the hands of idiots, it’s impossible. I happen to be a safe gun owner that keeps it only for protection. I am a very petite female so the likelyhood of me being a target of something is pretty great. I’m not willing to take the chance that someone will step in to help or will even be around if I need them.
This happened because some idiot did not respect the firearm, the recklessly discharged it and were probably drunk at the time. Like I said, thankfully this girl was not killed and will suffer no permanent physical injury but things could have easily gone the other way and she has suffered mental harm from this incident. I believe she had an angel looking out for her, if the bullet had to hit her it probably got her in the best possible spot. The fat in the breast tissue stopped the bullet from puncturing any vital organs or any muscle or bone that would cause permanent injury, they will remove the bullet and she should fully heal. But this never would have happened if not for poor judgment and just utter stupidity on the part of the shooter
Dano,
Banning guns does not insure keeping them out of the hands of those wishing to participate in illegal activities. Most of them did not come by their guns legally. Banning guns only keeps the guns out of the hands of the innocent people wishing to protect themselves against the aforementioned people.
I AGREE MIKE. THIS HAPPENS ALL TO OFTEN. AS BUGS BUNNY WOULD SAY (WHAT A MAROON) SAD TO SAY THIS YOUNG GIRL GOT HURT. THANK GOD SHE IS OK.MENTALLY THAT MAYBE ANOTHER MATTER.WHEN I HEAR GUN SHOTS GO OFF I GET REALLY NERVOUS.IF IT GOES UP IT MUST COME DOWN..STOP SHOOTING GUNS IN THE AIR!! THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO CELEBRATE..
well Dano, I disagree with you there, I am a gun owner and a concealed permit holder and have many friends that are the same. Guns are not the problem it is the judgment that the person uses. I have taken numerous safety and marksmanship classes and I have basic rules of firearm safety that I follow and have never had an accident. Unfortunately there are people that do not think before they act and that is when things like this happen. A firearm is dangerous and should be respected by its handler, I own a few guns but did not fire any of them over the holiday because I know something like this can happen. Basic rules: never point the muzzle at anything you don’t intend to destroy, always assume all guns are loaded at all times, never put your finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire, always know your target and what is beyond it…if all gun owners would follow those rules and the rules of proper gun storage, you would not have accidental shootings or things like this happen
Wow, that poor girl and her family. My heart goes out to you and I wish Jasmine a speedy, full recovery. Please, girl, do not lock yourself away inside because of this - as hard as it is to accept, this was a random accident and this city is a safe place.
I personally do not own guns, but was raised by a very careful gun owning father. He taught me (and all my siblings) the basics when I was a young girl - and those lessons have stayed with me to this day. Mike, you got it right and I wish every gun owner was as reasonable as you. A gun is a weapon not a noise-maker for a celebration, geez. I wish there was a way to keep the idiots away from guns. I really do believe that any respectable gun owner would rather die him/herself than let a stray bullet hit someone innocent. That is why respectable gun owners take such precautions and use common sense.
is she going to need a dr. note to pass through metal detectors now?
creepy :(
