Newark In Hopes Of Decent Budget

NEWARK, Ohio—By this time of the year, local municipalities have already put the 2009 budget to bed, but not the case in Newark.  Newark Mayor Bob Diebold says the city is under a three month interim budget.  There is $340,000 for the budget, but because it is from EMS billing, it’s earmarked for new hires for firefighter positions.  The Mayor says he hopes to fill seven to eight firefighter positions.  One problem is that few applicants that have passed all of the tests and there are tough city requirements.  Newark firefighters also have to be EMS trained.  Mayor Diebold says if the city can’t fill the positions, they will have to look closely at the overtime policy in place now.
