Newark Man Avoids Death Penalty In 3X Murder

NEWARK, Ohio—Authorities say a Central Ohio man won’t face the death penalty but will serve 45 years in prison in a 2005 triple murder during which he spared a toddler who was later found alone, crying and coated in blood.

Iradell Crumpton of Newark was given the sentence Monday after pleading no contest to three counts of murder and three counts of aggravated murder in an agreement with prosecutors.

Licking County Prosecutor Ken Oswalt says the deal gives families closure and avoids an endless series of appeals.

The victims, shot to death at a duplex in Newark, were Misty Butts, 21, James Bryant, 22, and John Boyce, 48. Police have said Trevor William Allen Moore, Butts’ then 13-month-old son, was found unharmed at the home.

Authorities believe the 32-year-old Crumpton went there seeking revenge related to a drug deal.
