Health officials said Wednesday’s probable case in a 19-year-old female was confirmed positive for the virus.

An OSU spokesperson said the female was an Ohio State student. She lives in Canfield Hall.

The case marked the university’s third confirmed case of H1N1.

The female patient remained in voluntary isolation and was being treated.

It could not be determined currently how she contracted the virus or whether she had contact with the other two students who tested positive for H1N1.

Students who live in Canfield Hall had a dorm meeting Wednesday night to talk about the new case. The meeting wasn’t mandatory.

Students said they haven’t seen the now-ill student in a while.

They said a doctor attended the dorm meeting to answer questions and remind students to wash their hands frequently. Hand sanitizer is available to all students who live in the hall.

One case had previously been reported at Stradley Hall and another at Morrison Tower, which are all on West 11th Avenue

Officials said the university’s first two H1N1 patients have recovered.

The 18-year-old male who lives in Stradley Hall has returned to classes, and the 20-year-old female who lives in Morrison Tower has discontinued isolation.

Students said the confirmed cases seem to be confined to south campus. Stradley, Morrison and Canfield all are on West 11th Avenue.

One new Franklin County probable H1N1 case was confirmed in an elderly man Wednesday evening, according to health officials.

The probable case sample has been referred for further testing. The elderly male was hospitalized but now is recovering at home.
