OBETZ, Ohio—A suspect who was shot by Obetz officers has died from his injuries, according to authorities.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS Monday.

As previously reported, Obetz officers were dispatched to a domestic-violence call at an apartment in the 2200 block of Bridlewood Boulevard Saturday night.

FOP President Jim Gilbert said two Obetz officers were part of the police-involved shooting.

A male suspect, whom police say was armed, was shot.

Gilbert said both officers resorted to the training while being faced with a suspect who was in possession of a weapon(s).

The suspect was transported by medic to Grant Medical Center around 10:30 p.m.

The identity of the suspect and his time of death could not be confirmed by authorities currently.

The Franklin County sheriff’s office continued to investigate the incident.

Gilbert said it was his understanding the case would be presented to the Franklin County grand jury, similar to all CPD cases that involve a death out of a police-involved shooting.

Thank you all for the support for the officers that were in involved in this unfortunate event.  These men are not cold blooded killers and do not go into situations like this wanting to hurt anyone.  Anyone here who is an officer or has family that are officers knows exactly what I’m talking about. The media demonizes our heroes just to sell the story. Ultimately it comes down to choices. Unfortunately for him he made the wrong one.  I express my deepest sympathy for his wife and children.

Maumi - I agree! Everyone in the end suffered because of this situation.

Thank you for thinking of the policeman involved as well, people are so quick to make the police out to be blood thirsty doughnut hounds, but that in most cases couldn’t be further from the truth. They have families at home too that expect them to come home in one piece at night as well.

It is sad for the family and the officer that this man had to die.  I am almost certain though that all the officer could think of was making it home to his family.

Not sure what to believe now, but if your version is correct I have a couple of questions.

If nothing happened or was going on then why were the police called to the residence to begin with?

What about the weapons that were in his possession?

He may have been a nice guy & great friend, but I find it hard to believe that the Obetz police would just show up at his house for no reason and shoot someone just for heck of it.

I believe that it could have been handled in a different way as well. If everything was all swell and perfect why was there a domestic fight that got so bad that the police were called in the first place?

I am so disappointed in the coverage of this story by NBC.  There was so much wrong information.  First of all nothing happened at an apartment complex.  This shooting happened at Jim’s home.  His death was not reported by NBC until Monday.  He died the night he was shot.  Jim was not an ignorant criminal.  He was a married man with children and grandchildren.  He was my parents neighbor for at least the last 20 years.  You would never meet a nicer man.  He liked bluegrass music and would visit my father and they would play music and sing together.  The only people who will ever really know what happened that night are the Obetz police and Jim’s wife.  I believe this whole situation could have been handled in a better way.  My father swears that he will always believe that Jim was murdered by the Obetz police who were involved.  Jim Hatfield should still be alive today.

Something The Officers Involved Will Never Forget.

I sympathize when officers have to deal with an individual like this, they have to live with this image forever.  I hope the officer involved keeps his head up and tries not to let this tragic event effect his future service towards his community.

Note to ignorant criminals…...if you pull a weapon on an officer there is a good chance it will be the last thing you ever do!
