CLEVELAND, Ohio—Ohio caves have been yielding discoveries of new creatures, including a tiny shrimplike crustacean near Akron and two kinds of spiders in southern Ohio.

Ecologist Erin Hazelton with the state’s Department of Natural Areas and Preserves says the deeper you go, the more life you’re likely to find that you haven’t seen before. She calls that “exciting.“

Mike Johnson with Summit County Metro Parks says the unnamed crustacean found recently in Liberty Park in Twinsburg resembles “Sea Monkeys.“ The little white cave critter has multiple limbs and what appear to be antennae.

The spiders were discovered n Adams and Brown counties, near the Ohio River. They’re very small and have legs much longer than their bodies.
