Ohio Democrat Indicted For Money Laundering, Theft

ATHENS, Ohio
The chairwoman of the Athens County Democratic Party has been indicted on charges of money laundering and theft.
Susan Gwinn was indicted Thursday on two counts of theft in office, one count of money laundering, one count of unauthorized use of property and two counts of falsification.
The Ohio Elections Commission in June found that Gwinn mishandled $27,000 in campaign contributions during an unsuccessful race for county prosecutor last year. The commission voted to refer the case to the county prosecutor’s office.
Gwinn has maintained that she was spending money from personal loans that she intended to repay. A message left Friday on Gwinn’s cell phone was not immediately returned.
