MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio—The coroner in Cleveland says a letter carrier who was shot while delivering mail on his suburban route has died.

Cuyahoga County Coroner’s office spokesman Powell Caesar says 53-year-old Daniel Kondas died just before 11 p.m. on Thursday. An autopsy is to be conducted by Saturday.

Police in Maple Heights say Kondas was shot in the head while on the job Thursday morning.

Police say a search led officers to a nearby home where a man was taken into custody. So far, no charges have been filed.

Authorities have not said anything about a possible motive for the shooting.

Postal Service spokesman Victor Dubina says Kondas had been working in Maple Heights since 2000.

Residents say the letter carrier was popular in the neighborhood.

Yes, because it was the NRA that made this man shoot the mailman! Get real! There were guns in my house my entire childhood (hanging right there on the wall were several rifles within my reach) and even now as a adult female I still have guns in my house and I can tell you that not one of the guns that I have been around has ever been used on another person. Responsible gun owners are taught that guns are for hunting and for your protection only. That’s it! They are not toys and should be respected at all times loaded and unloaded. I will continue to have guns in my house until the day I die as will my children. I have the right to protect myself from harm and with todays society where people feel they have the right to take things from others and hurt people whenever they feel like it I need that right more than ever.

disgusteddem….....the NRA didn’t shoot this letter carrier, another person did….Don’t try to blame the NRA…If it wasn’t for guns, you probably wouldn’t be sitting where you are, free….We have freedom because of our veterans and weapons….If this person is known to have shot this mailman, they should be given a trial, and if found guilty, taken out back of the court room and shot…This would take care of all of those appeals…
Have you ever had a loved one murdered, raped?...I have…It is a horrible feeling knowing you cannot do anything to the scum who put you in this misery…
It’s funny how when something like this happens to ya, you change your stance on things….I hope it never happens to you….
There’s a bunch of others in prison, who should be fried…If we got rid of all the murderers, rapist, child molesters/pedophiles, there may be enough tax money for healthcare for everyone..

Another senseless death you can blame on the NRA. Get rid of guns!

In this country we don’t shoot “suspects”. We have something called a trial and we attempt to prove someone guilty of the crime for which they are accused. Just so you know if you ever get jury duty!!

I’ve got a 9mm hollow point bullet that I would be willing to give free of charge and this could be over and done with in under a minute.

That’s a great thought Patriots and I agree wholeheartedly, but what will happen, is he will be held in jail until his trial in about 2-3 years, then he’ll lose, but appeal, and then that will take another 5-10 years, and maybe, just MAYBE, he’ll get to be executed by 2050!!! Shoot him now!

A mail carrier delivering mail??  What is wrong with people?!?!  They should be able to take this suspect out and shoot him right between the eyes!
