COLUMBUS, Ohio—A Central Ohio woman created a panic and mess Tuesday after telling everyone in a store that she just won the lottery and was going to give the money away.
The woman had called to get a limousine to pick her up at her apartment and drive her around, stopping at the Burlington Coat Factory on East Main Street.
The woman told everyone in the store that she was going to pay for all of their purchases.
People started talking and soon, there were hundreds of people in the store and even more outside, assuming the woman was going to pay for their items.
Officers were called to disperse the crowd.
Police discovered that the incident was a hoax. The woman didn’t win the lottery.
She was arrested and could be charged with inducing panic and possibly fraud.

Ok…The story I heard reported on television stated that there actually were several people who did manage to get merchandise before her debit card reached its daily limit. My question is this…Now that everyone knows that this woman is ill and there really can’t be any malice involved because of that..Are those people going to return the items so that this obviously mentally ill woman can repay the store for the damage caused by the people preying on her and maybe try to get her life back in order? Or is it finder keepers? It’s not a gift if a stanger who is not in their right mind buys it.
What I find hysterical about this whole thing is the people that were upset when they found out that this woman was lying. Big deal!!!! It’s not like your out anything! Everyone wants something for nothing. I wasn’t there but from what I heard people went crazy in there and left the store in shambles. If I was the manager of the store I would be upset too. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone decided to sue for not getting the free stuff they were promised and for the emotional stress that they had to go through when they realized that they weren’t getting anything on someone else’s dime. Boohoo!
I also hope she gets help, I’am sure we will be paying for it.
The store was by all reports trashed by these folks, I wonder if they might need more welfare or just mental help.
You can’t blame the stores management.
I hope this woman gets the mental help that she apparently so desperately needs.
yea she should of given the store like 100,000 dollars nd said that the first so many people that came in can have $500
One thing I have to wonder in this is where was the store’s management? If I owned a store and somebody came in and said that they were paying for everybody, I’d be making sure they were legit before I let them try to pay for anything.

hahah i was there that stuff was crazzzyyy!!
This was some of the funniest TV I have seen on NBC in years.
This woman actually called our limousine company last night claiming that she won the lottery and want a limo to come pick her up asap but didn’t want to provide us with a credit card. Didn’t fall for her scam though, that happens with us a lot when people try to steel our time and resources. This is not funny, this woman need to be prosecuted or helped, she’s either a scammer or mentally ill.
