Potential Witness To Abandoned Newborn Identified
A woman who was sought as a possible witness to the abandonment of a newborn boy this week has been identified.
LEWIS CENTER, Ohio—A woman who was sought as a possible witness to the abandonment of a newborn boy this week has been identified.
The male newborn was found alone in the bushes between the Meijer and KinderCare Learning Center on U.S. Route 23 or North High Street shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Delaware County sheriff’s office.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office wanted to speak with a woman who was seen shopping in the Goodwill Store on Columbus Pike on Tuesday afternoon, around the time the baby was discovered.
“She did exactly the right thing. The woman’s family recognized her picture when they saw it in the newspaper. She immediately called our office,“ said Delaware County Sheriff Walter Davis III.
Investigators determined that the woman did not have information about the case and is in no way connected to the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Delaware County sheriff’s office at 740-833-2800.

fixfireleo - I think a genetic database is a great idea! I’ve been saying it for years! As soon as your born the doctors should take your DNA and put it right into a database. If you don’t break the law you will never have anything to worry about!
she had to have been in the area at a time when she might have seen who dropped off the baby. the woman who found the baby wrapped it in a sheet and kept it warm in the car until the police arrived.
Ok I am a bit confused…is this the woman who had called 911 and said she had found the baby boy? How and why was this woman who was shopping possibly have been a witness? And if she did find the baby did she stay with the baby until police arrived or did she leave the child laying there and then go shopping? This sounds like a potential movie in the making….
although i am a supporter of privacy and freedoms, this is an instance where i believe it would be helpful to establish a genetic database for every person in the US. there is nothing to be afraid of if you dont commit a crime and it could even help you…if you are 94 years old, and found wandering in a mall with no ID and no one is missing you, authorities could look up to see who you are and where you belong. in this case, it would help find the mother.
