A local mother says her son learned a “new” word after getting a toy in his Happy Meal.

COLUMBUS, Ohio —The movie “Ice Age” is popular with children, but one cartoon character has one Columbus woman upset –- thinking the Happy Meal toy from the movie is using foul language.

While it may be obvious to some that the talking toy is saying, “Everybody loves Sid,” it wasn’t so clear to Chequela Bowman. She thought the character, a sloth from the “Ice Age” movies, said “Everybody loves [expletive].”

Bowman said Wednesday she went through the drive-through at the McDonald’s near the airport.

After her 2-year-old son ate his meal, he had a new favorite word.

“My youngest came around and said, ‘[expletive], [expletive]’ and I was like, ‘Why’s he saying that?’ and he’s like, ‘Listen to the toy,’ “ Bowman said.

In an attempt to diffuse the issue, Bowman called the McDonald’s corporate office and by late afternoon had not received much response.

Wednesday evening, McDonald’s sent NBC 4 a statement stating, “The phrase ‘Everybody loves Sid’ featured in the Sid The Sloth Happy Meal toy, was provided to us by FOX, directly from the film, which is rated PG.”

McDonald’s selection process ensures the phrases selected to be featured in our Happy Meal toys are consistent with the stringent standards that we attribute to all of our Happy Meal toy offerings.

“I just hope that they take them from the shelf and don’t sell them anymore until they correct the problem because it sounds too much like, ‘Everybody loves [expletive],‘ “ Bowman said.

Bozzy,
I believe you have hit the nail on the head here. Great observation. Thats exactly what it is…discrimination and the child undoubtably heard the other word in the home. The whole world knows the child is only a two year old now. Maybe the tattoo artist isn’t much older.

Sounds to me like discrimination against those who have speech problems. Sid Slurs his s’s. I clearly here what is intended. I think this child heard the S-word somewhere else. Most likely in the home or on Cable TV where I hear it on Showtime.
Bozzy
ps I also hope the parent reads these comments.

My Dearest Susie,

Weren’t your comments struck by the same lady?  Did she call you racist also?  Do you know the meaning of the word?  I’ve put it up here twice I believe, but if I haven’t, you can always go to a dictionary.  If you need help, I’m sure you can find a 3rd grader to assist you.

Please be sure that when you’re perfect, that you take good notes for the rest of us.  I also have a life.  My life is dedicated to protecting freedom of speech.  I believe it’s one of our rights as an Americian.  You should also get the 3rd grader to assist you on that as well.

They put more time into the video of moving Sid around a McDonalds sign then I would give to someone.. say.. like you.

So you seem to post on here a lot.  So are you belly-aching??  And speaking of getting a life.  Hummm…

Good luck with your life, and do me a favor… don’t respond to this.  Invest time with the 3rd grader who is helping you with your vocabulary, and your rights as an Americian.

Good day

My guess is that Ms Yost has better things to do than devote soooooo much time and energy to someone griping because his offensive comment was yanked from a blog.

Considering that you keep complaining that this story was even reported at all, it seems you’ve spent more time screaming and belly-aching about it than Ms Yost took to put it together in the first place. Now isn’t that ironic.

If she can’t get back to you tonight, perhaps it’s because she has a life. You ought to try it.

Denise Yost,

As I have previously posted, I have sent an email to a general mailbox of NBC 4 as of a week ago.  At this time, there has been no response.  Also a week ago I put a comment in asking specifically how my comment was “racist” and at this point, you haven’t said.  I have even defined the term “racist” and under the defined answer, my comment is far from that.  So far, you have not responded.  Again, to make sure I am clear, this was done a week ago.  So far nothing.  Timeiness wouldn’t you say, is not a factor for you and your “crew”.  If I am able to call Ike, why isn’t he able to respond via email as requested a week ago?  Are you too busy making news out of nonnews items that you can’t respond in email?  I am appalled at the lack of ability to investigate anything other then a childrens toy brought to your attention by some “morally bound” parent.

I will gladly call Ike on Monday, I will also record the conversation and provide to a friend at another news program and see what they will do with this trainwreck you call a news story.

Keep up the good work Ms. Yost.
