A local mother says her son learned a “new” word after getting a toy in his Happy Meal.

COLUMBUS, Ohio —The movie “Ice Age” is popular with children, but one cartoon character has one Columbus woman upset –- thinking the Happy Meal toy from the movie is using foul language.

While it may be obvious to some that the talking toy is saying, “Everybody loves Sid,” it wasn’t so clear to Chequela Bowman. She thought the character, a sloth from the “Ice Age” movies, said “Everybody loves [expletive].”

Bowman said Wednesday she went through the drive-through at the McDonald’s near the airport.

After her 2-year-old son ate his meal, he had a new favorite word.

“My youngest came around and said, ‘[expletive], [expletive]’ and I was like, ‘Why’s he saying that?’ and he’s like, ‘Listen to the toy,’ “ Bowman said.

In an attempt to diffuse the issue, Bowman called the McDonald’s corporate office and by late afternoon had not received much response.

Wednesday evening, McDonald’s sent NBC 4 a statement stating, “The phrase ‘Everybody loves Sid’ featured in the Sid The Sloth Happy Meal toy, was provided to us by FOX, directly from the film, which is rated PG.”

McDonald’s selection process ensures the phrases selected to be featured in our Happy Meal toys are consistent with the stringent standards that we attribute to all of our Happy Meal toy offerings.

“I just hope that they take them from the shelf and don’t sell them anymore until they correct the problem because it sounds too much like, ‘Everybody loves [expletive],‘ “ Bowman said.

What a joke. Get this junk off the news. You people should be fired for even putting it on the web. That woman probably screams worse when she is getting her tattoos….. give me a break….

The woman is full of what she thinks Sid is saying.

Seven pages of comments and I’m the fierst person to go there?

That was an offensive comment, I do agree that the woman was most likely attempting to get something out of this because it could possibly be misinterpreted.  America is the land of the easy quick buck.  I think it’s hilarious that NBC even went to interview her over such a minute subject, but there are parents out here that are glad to hear that this may be the situation, you know the parents that think Barbie is too anatomically correct and whatnot and do everything in thier power to rid of any toy they feel they would not allow for thier child to play with.  All I can say is don’t buy the happy meal if it offends you. I know how to talk to my child an d explain what the freakin toy is saying. Communication is something else, geez.

I actually have a “Sid the Sloth” Happy Meal toy in my hand and after playing it and listening to it several times, I GUESS it could be taken that way, but if you have seen either movie, you would know that is what Sid sounds like. I really don’t think this is news worthy either, it is a waste of everyone’s time.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!! Just when I need it along comes some twit to give me a good laugh. I don’t know who is worse, the Mom who KNOWS her kid learned that word at home, but wants to blame it on a toy, or the other idiot (newsie) who actually thinks this is newsworthy!!! Thanks for the laugh, people, It is comforting to know that in the USA, you still retain your right to be an absolute idiot.

I agree with the video, It is hard to tell what is being said.  I would not let my child have the toy because not all kinds hear well.

PLEASE, your 2 YEAR OLD can utter the words"listen to the toy”, but cannot identify the words he hears? GIVE ME A BREAK, loser!

“Give me a break…so ridiculous.  Why is this even considered news?“

I want to know the same!
But, NBC4, working for YOU! is why this is news.
Such a shame.  Altho, I’ve got many LOLZ from it, as many others have too, who reads this story.

We all need a good laugh, right?  Why not do it at someone elses expense?
