A local mother says her son learned a “new” word after getting a toy in his Happy Meal.
COLUMBUS, Ohio —The movie “Ice Age” is popular with children, but one cartoon character has one Columbus woman upset –- thinking the Happy Meal toy from the movie is using foul language.
While it may be obvious to some that the talking toy is saying, “Everybody loves Sid,” it wasn’t so clear to Chequela Bowman. She thought the character, a sloth from the “Ice Age” movies, said “Everybody loves [expletive].”
Bowman said Wednesday she went through the drive-through at the McDonald’s near the airport.
After her 2-year-old son ate his meal, he had a new favorite word.
“My youngest came around and said, ‘[expletive], [expletive]’ and I was like, ‘Why’s he saying that?’ and he’s like, ‘Listen to the toy,’ “ Bowman said.
In an attempt to diffuse the issue, Bowman called the McDonald’s corporate office and by late afternoon had not received much response.
Wednesday evening, McDonald’s sent NBC 4 a statement stating, “The phrase ‘Everybody loves Sid’ featured in the Sid The Sloth Happy Meal toy, was provided to us by FOX, directly from the film, which is rated PG.”
McDonald’s selection process ensures the phrases selected to be featured in our Happy Meal toys are consistent with the stringent standards that we attribute to all of our Happy Meal toy offerings.
“I just hope that they take them from the shelf and don’t sell them anymore until they correct the problem because it sounds too much like, ‘Everybody loves [expletive],‘ “ Bowman said.

If she is “entitled” to anything, then I am entitled to double what her monetary damages since I had to read this. Is this really news???? Why doesn’t she get a grip and get a job instead.
Something for nothing.
“Everybody loves GHETTO!“ She is just trying to get paid for feeding her kid Macdonalds (yes I know, I did it on purpose).
I have never heard a 2 yo that was able to say a complete sentence like “Just listen to the toy”.
I wonder what the producers at NBC 4 heard because if they heard what she thinks they wouldn’t have played it 5 times. Go get a job, B.
I heard this on the news this morning and also knew exactly what it was saying. This lady needs a life.
I listened to this video and I immediately heard “Everybody loves Sid” I had not idea what she was implicating the toy was saying.
Yes, all of these toys should be burned immediately! And McDonald’s should pay her a million dollars for her pain and suffering. Come on, this is a cheaply made toy; from my experience, you never can understand what they’re saying. I’m surprised she bothered with corporate, and didn’t just call 9-1-1 immediately.
The kid probably hears worse from her on a daily basis. Just another idiot looking for an easy payday.
It sounded just like “SID” to me. Of course, Mom didn’t have any problem using the other word, several times. I’m guessing THAT is where Junior heard it!
Yeah right. Mom sitting there with her tat. My guess would be he knows a few others as well. Perhaps some money would make her feel better.!
From what I heard it wasn’t what she thought it was. If a child comes out and says something like that, they must be hearing it at home. You just don’t pick that up from a toy… Get a grip lady.
So one person hears what she wants to hear and she expects the company to recall the toy?
How many times did she say the word in the video? Four, five? A bit hypocritical, if you ask me.
