GROVEPORT, Ohio—Police continued to search for a 24-year-old Groveport man who is accused of shooting and killing his dog with a crossbow.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS Friday.

Prosecutors said Adam Brewer fired two arrows through his own pit bull earlier this month.

City Prosecutor Bill Hedrick moved the case forward after meeting with the humane society.
Hedrick said Brewer’s stories weren’t consistent.

A warrant was issued for Brewer’s arrest.

“Dogs can’t choose their owners. We can choose to pursue those who don’t take animal ownership responsibly and don’t treat them appropriately. This was a pretty bad case of cruelty, and we are pursuing it,“ Hedrick said.

If convicted, Brewer faced a first-degree misdemeanor, as many as 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

The fine and jail time are not punishment enough.  Until we get serious about prosecuting filth like this and change the laws to reflect that we value our pets as more than mere objects, then monsters like this will continue to treat them as if they are nothing, you know, “it’s just a dog”.  Felony convictions and heavy fines are what is needed: 6 months is a joke.

The maximum fine for this isn’t enough, and neither is the prison sentence.  Anyone who could shoot his own pet is a dangerous person who could do other horrible things and probably has.  A person who wasn’t mentally disturbed in a dangerous way couldn’t do this.
