Protect Your Identity Week Kicks Off

COLUMBUS, Ohio – National Protect Your Identity week kicks off today and runs through October 24.

According to http://www.protectyouridnow.org, identity theft is commonly one of the fastest growing crimes in America. 

The site has many tips on what to do if you fall victim to the crime including first steps for victims.

Columbus will have a variety of workshops and conferences available this week for the public to attend. 

Attorney General Richard Cordray will speak at a press conference at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office on Monday providing the public with updated statistics and information on identity theft in Ohio.

According to the Attorney General’s Web site some common tips to prevent identity theft are as follows: Never give personal information to someone you don’t know, even in a contest. Never sign anything you don’t understand, beware of suspicious checks; they could be fake check scams, ask companies not to sell your personal information and put your number on the Do Not Call list.
