COLUMBUS, Ohio—Central Ohio lost a breast-cancer research champion and a friend last week.
Stefanie Spielman lost her public battle with breast cancer Thursday night.
A strong and steady flow of mourners began going in and out of the Longaberger Alumni House, 2200 Olentangy River Rd., well before the public viewing began at 1 p.m.
In line were donors to the Stefanie Spielman Foundation as well as cancer survivors and families of survivors.
Guests were encouraged to sign an electronic condolence book set up by Schoedinger.
Longaberger Alumni House was adorned with very fragrant flower bouquets, many from NFL teams such as the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings.
All stood in line to pay their respects to Stefanie’s husband, Chris, who quit the NFL to care for her during her 11-year fight with breast cancer.
Early in her treatment, Stefanie and Chris approached The James Cancer Hospital at OSU to set up the Stefanie Spielman Foundation for Breast Cancer Research.
In just a little more than a decade, the Spielmans raised $6.5 million dollars.
Public calling hours were to be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Longaberger Alumni House.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research or The Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund.
Contributions to either fund should be sent to The James Development Office, 660 Ackerman Rd., P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, OH 43218-3112.
