DELAWARE, Ohio—A series of distinct markers have been left in the Delaware area, including the scene of a recent shooting.

NBC 4’s Mike Bowersock reported with the FAST FACTS on why investigators said you could have information vital to the case and not even know it.

The shooting happened the evening of Friday, Jan. 9, in the 100 block of West Hull Drive in Delaware.

Eric Spires, 34, was struck in his home by a shot that was intentionally fired from outside of the house.

A small sample of red cloth was found at the scene of the shooting.

Similar cloths were found on car windshields parked in the Cheshire Crossing subdivision.

The cloths were submitted to the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforement (ICE).

Delaware police captain Bruce Pijanowski said the swaths have Asian characters written on them.

A linguist also was studying them to see what they may mean.

Delaware police received several tips and was in the process of investigating those tips.

The department believed there may be a person or persons with information they feel is insignificant but could prove helpful.

Anyone with information or who wants to report suspicious activity, should call the Delaware Police Department at 740-203-1111.

Spires remained hospitalized.
