Secretary Of State Rules On Senator’s Residency

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner has ruled that state Senator Jon Husted (HYOO’-sted) is not a resident of the Dayton suburb of Kettering, where he’s registered to vote.

Brunner issued the ruling late Monday.

Husted says a home in Kettering is his legal residence but acknowledges he often stays with his wife at her Columbus home. Citing demands of his job in the Legislature, he says the law allows for absences from the Kettering residence on state business.

Brunner’s decision breaks a 2-2 deadlock by the Montgomery County Board of Elections over the issue.

Husted is running as a Republican for secretary of state next year. Brunner is a Democrat running for U.S. Senate.
