COLUMBUS, Ohio—A fatal semi-versus-car accident killed one female victim and sent a second female victim to the hospital Tuesday morning.

The crash happened close to 9:25 a.m. at the intersection of state Route 161 and Huntley Road, NBC 4’s Paul Stelzer reported.

SR 161’s westbound lanes were closed for hours while accident-scene investigators worked. Huntley also was closed north of SR 161, and the service road off SR 161 also was closed.

Two elderly females were transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital out of the crash. One of the victims died at the hospital, and the other remained in life-threatening condition.

The semi did not have a trailer hitched to it at the time of the crash.

The semi driver’s condition was unknown currently.

Such a vehicle is more often called a truck-tractor. The term “semi” comes from the semi-trailer since it has axles in the rear and not the front.
