The heartfelt condolences from our family to the Crum family. A little over twenty years ago Jimmy visited my daughter at children’s hospital before and after open heart surgury. He visited everyday during her 17 day stay. After her dismissal he kept in touch with her over the years, meeting us at a restaurant near Children’s Hospital when she had a check up. He flew into our local high school football game (homecoming) and set with my daughter making that her special homecoming. He invited the family to a love telecast of channel 4 news. Our family knows that the world has lost a great man.
Sincerely
Bob & Chris & family
I am a 46 year old man and I remember Jimmy Crumb being a part of our day as I grew up. I feel like I lost a friend. You can see the love his NBC family felt for him. I cant imagine his families grief. Rest in peace Jimmy and may God be with your family.
Growing up in Columbus,Ohio; I can remember my Dad & I listening to Jimmy call the Ohio State Buckeyes Basketball games. There was no better! (How about that!) He will be sadly missed.
I write this with tears in my eyes. I literally grew up with Jimmy Crum as the voice that was listened to and trusted.(I was born in 1959). My Mother would run into the kitchen and pop popcorn to be ready for the basketball games. She never had popcorn in the bowl by the time the game was over because it would be thrown into the air, with “HOW ABOUT THAT SPORTSFANS” ringing in our ears. I can’t look at a wild jacket and not think of Jimmy. I have often thought of him since he retired, and when Kelly’s name would be announced as singing someplace, I thought of how very proud of her he was. His love of The Buckeyes was only eclipsed by the love for his family. My deepfelt sympathies go to his family and his Channel 4 family. I am sure you will miss him, but will have a special place in you hearts for him. I know I always will. He is with Woody talking about that game last night. WHAT A BARN BURNER! We will always love you, Jimmy !!!!!
In 1982, our son, Joey, was the Hardin Co. Easter Seals poster child. Joey was 9 years old. Jimmy came to Joey’s school on Feb. 27 of that year to tape a segment with Joey. We still have a copy of that program. Jimmy was wonderful with Joey…especially when Joey told him he was going to bowl a 300 game and Jimmy high fived him and said he’d be there to see it.. We still have the original tin type of the newspaper article from that day. Joey says he still remembers what Jimmy wore that day. We are saddened by Jimmy’s passing. We will always remember the joy on our son’s face the day Jimmy Crum came to town. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
About 10 years ago or so my cousin was involved in a terrible house fire that left him with 2nd and 3rd degree burns over most of his body from his neck down he was hospitalized for over 2 months Jimmy Crumm out of the clear blue stopped in to see him one day and a friendship began. Jimmy gave my cousin Ronnie hope and left him with a smile. Jimmy visted Ronnie a 14 year old at the time on a regular basis and always left my cousin on a brighter note. Ronnie was realized from the hospital and about a year later was over at a friends house one thing lead to another and his friend ended up shooting my cousin in the heart killing him. My cousin’s life was cut short at the age of 15. Jimmy Crumm showed up at the funeral with tears in his eyes the hope for Ronnie was gone and Jimmy was there for him and his family once again. Jimmy Crumm will never know what a impact he had on our family but he does now because the angels are letting him know how thankful we are for Jimmy Crumm and the life he led. Thanks Jimmy.
I worked with Jimmy when I was executive producer at WCMH-TV in 1977. He was unique. He always knew if he was shorted on his sports time because he savored every second of it. He loved reporting sports and he loved his good charity work even more. And he gave his full time to both, never shorting his fans or his good causes. A pleasure knowing you, Jimmy. Prayers and condolences to your family.

Can’t add much to the sentiments alrerady expressed. The man’s entire life can be summed up in on word: CLASS!
I had to work last night and didn’t watch the late news. I just heard about our buddy of Central Ohio from Gail Hogan and her Daytime Show. I got chills and cried, it is really heartbreaking to see such a legend to go, but he did exactly what he wanted, which was fantastic and I envy him for that. It was so sad seeing him retire what? 15 years ago? WOW!! Everytime I seen him on TV for anything, I just smiled, hoping I’d see another plaid jacket of his =]
We’ll all miss you, Jimmy. We love you, look out for your family, including all those kids at Recreation Unlimited and the Easter Seals. They’ll need you more now than ever!! They are all also part of your family, we know!!
xoxo
I got to meet Jimmy in the summer of 2000. He was at the Saturn Day at the Zoo. There was a booth selling bears named after him and Jack Hannah benefitting Recreation Unlimited. I seen him standing at the booth and I went over and asked him to autograph a Jimmy bear I had just bought. He kind of chuckled and signed it.
Thanks for the memory Jimmy. You’ll be missed by so many around here.
